Course Description and Objective:

This course introduces students to the later half of the Christian Bible which includes the Prophets, Biblical short stories, Wisdom literature, and the New Testament. The approach of the course is an appreciation of the historical and literary world of the later half of the Bible as well as its continuing impact on people today. Students will be encouraged to develop their own perspectives and insights on these classic stories and formulate a critical assessment of their relevance today.

Required Texts and Materials:

1. Celia Brewer Marshall. A Guide Through the Old Testament. (Louisville: John Knox Press. 1989)
2. Any modern english translation of the Bible which includes chapter and verse designations.
3. A folder or binder to hold notes and handout

Basic Course Schedule:
weeks 1, 2: Prophecy
week 3, 4: Short Stories [Test]
week 5, 6: Wisdom Literature
week 7,8: New Testament Gospels [Test]
week 9: New Testament Letters and Acts
week 10: Exam Week: [Test]

Grading:
3 Tests: 60% (20% each)
Essay Assignment: 20%
Class Participation and Homework: 20%
